The YunOS is a Linux-based
mobile operating system that aims to become the top smartphone operating system
in the country China. Soon Alibaba’s YunOS will beat Apple’s iOS in Chinese
mainland by the end of this year 2016.
Alibaba’s YunOS To Beat Apple’s iOS In China
There is a very few
number of people know about the YunOS, Yes, it is a mobile operating system
which is also known as Aliyun OS and it is a Linux distribution designed for
the smartphones based on the Android Open Source Project.
The YunOS (Aliyun OS) is
actually is developed by the AliCloud, a subsidiary of Chinese company Alibaba
Group and currently it is on the route to corner a 14 percent share of the
smartphone shipments in the mainland China by the end of this year 2016.
The analysts have made
reports regarding the OS and according to them by the end of this year 2016,
the Alibaba group’s YunOS which is also known as Aliyun OS will simply take
down the Apple iOS and will become the second-largest active mobile operating
system in China. But, the Alibaba’s previous claims states that the YunOS has
already surpassed Apple iOS.
A senior analyst said
that “Despite the strong strides made by the Alibaba platform, Bernstein senior
analyst Mark Li told the South China Morning Post that growth prospects for
YunOS outside of its home market would likely be limited to cheap or subsidized
smartphones”.
The research firm
Strategy Analytics states that Alibaba-backed Meizu, XiaoLaJiao and Doov are
the top YunOS smartphone suppliers. But, last month, at the conference of
Alibaba’s cloud computing, the director of YunOS, Aiden Yong said that “YunOS
aims to become the “go-to operating system” for China’s smartphone industry”.
Currently, the YunOS is
active or installed in 14% of the devices used in China which is up to 100
million units per year echoing the earlier projection made by the Chinese
e-commerce giant Alibaba.
Earlier, the tech giant
Google symbolized the Chinese YunOS as an Android fork and not only that the
tech giant Google also allegedly forced the Taiwanese multinational hardware
and electronics corporation Acer simply to pull the plug on its YunOS-powered
Android smartphone. As the Google said that the Taiwanese multinational
hardware and electronics corporation Acer could not work with an Android fork
due to its membership in Open Handset Alliance.
But, the YunOS
executives have also stressed that the YunOS is not an “Android fork”, as it is
developed using the open source Linux software. Hence, YunOS claims that its
runtime environment consists of its own made Java VM and cloud app engine,
which supports HTML5 web apps. But, on the other hand, it also doesn’t try to
deny that it actually borrowed few open source Android applications and tools
which simply allow its users to enjoy the third party applications.
